Townsville HECS Band 2

39 hours lectures, 26 practice classes. Semester 1.

Staff: Dr G Sneddon.

Solid geometry, partial derivatives; line integrals, multiple integration, vector calculus; revision of ordinary differential equations, Fourier series, Laplace and Fourier transforms; partial differential equations; matrix algebra and eigenvalue problems.

Learning Objectives:

  1. introduction to topics in geometry, vector calculus, differential equations and linear algebra with emphasis on their implementation in engineering applications;
  2. to develop and exercise skill in developing models of physical phenomena and to become familiar with standard techniques for solving associated mathematical problems.

Assessment by coursework (30%); a three-hour examination (70%).
