Introduction to judicial review of administrative action and statutory remedies.
Major topics include: theory of government and administrative review; ultra vires; natural justice; remedies; Administrative Decisions (Judicial Review) Act; Administrative Appeals Tribunal Act; freedom of information; ombudsman; corruption – Whistleblowers Act.
Learning Objectives:
- to provide students with a basic knowledge of the subject topics sufficient to enter professional practice.
Assessment by tutorials (10%); research paper (30%); end-of-term examination (60%) (subject to variation).
