Television Journalism

This subject further develops students’ broadcast skills and introduces them to the on-screen presentation skills required of the television reporter. They learn to prepare television reports for news, current affairs and documentary both technically – electronic news gathering (cameras, tripods, microphones), voice production, on-screen editing of pictures and sound – and journalistically. Students are also encouraged to develop a critical eye for all genres of television journalism, locally, nationally and internationally.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to write television news scripts;
  2. to conduct television news interviews;
  3. to present news reports on camera;
  4. to operate electronic news gathering equipment;
  5. to edit pictures and sound to final news report product.

Assessment by participation in practical classes (10%); regular television news reporting assignments (90%).
