This subject explores the concepts of community development and community capacity building in the context of Indigenous Australian communities. Students will examine the role of community, government and non-government partnerships as Indigenous communities attempt to shift from a ‘welfare based economy’ to a ‘real economy’.
Learning Objectives:
- review the history of service provision to Indigenous communities;
- examine current government policy and the trend towards community, government and non-government sector partnerships;
- develop an understanding of cross-sectoral partnerships theory in the management of Indigenous communities and organisations.
Assessment by participation (20%); journal (30%); a 2,000 word essay (30%); oral presentation (20%).
