Cross-cultural Training for Indigenous Contexts

This subject examines the cross-cultural contexts of Indigenous Australian and non-Indigenous Australia by engaging students in processes of learning about the relationship between these two groups, across time to the present and for the future. This is a practical subject designed to provide students with opportunities to develop effective strategies for working cross-culturally with Indigenous Australians.
Learning Objectives:
- increase knowledge and understanding of the histories, cultures and identities of Indigenous Australian peoples;
- develop further understanding of the impact of specific legislation and policies on Indigenous Australians;
- develop understanding and knowledge of legislation and policies of equity in the workplace;
- develop skills for cross-cultural interactions in the work place context;
- demonstrate increased skills of independent research and academic study.
Assessment by attendance and participation (20%); worksheets (40%); tutorial presentation (40%).
