This subject will provide an introduction to various aspects of Japanese civilisation through selected texts and visual media (in English or subtitled).
Learning Objectives:
- provide a basic understanding of the intellectual, ideological, artistic and religious factors which support the cultural framework of Japan.
Assessment by a written two-hour examination (30%); tutorial presentation (25%); major essay (45%).
