Writing History

This subject explores a range of approaches to the writing of history. It focuses on the changing trends in historical writing from the 1950s to the present.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to become familiar with contemporary historiographical debates;
  2. to gain an appreciation of the diversity of interpretative and theoretical perspectives available to the historian;
  3. to develop skills in the organisation and expression of research findings appropriate to the honours level of study.

Assessment by written assignments (50%); seminar presentations (30%); seminar participation (20%).
