History Honours Thesis

Individual supervision. Full year

Available only to students admitted to the honours program.

Staff: Individual supervisors.

Individually selected topic approved by the Head of School and agreed to by the nominated supervisor. The student undertakes a program of guided research to produce a thesis that demonstrates originality, analytical rigour and sound knowledge of the relevant field. The thesis length is between 12,000 and 15,000 words.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to develop research skills appropriate to the selected topic;
  2. to develop the capacity to synthesise research findings in an intellectually coherent fashion;
  3. to develop the ability to organise and present research findings in the form of persuasive argumentation.

Assessment by examination by at least two examiners, either internal or external or a combination of both. The thesis mark constitutes 50% of assessment in the honours program.
