Contemporary Population Issues

This subject builds on the knowledge of population concepts and theories taught in GE2304 and GE3304 . The contemporary population dimension to environmental changes is examined from a world perspective. The subject also focuses on contemporary thought and changes in the Australian society including modern family forms, issues in mortality control, social dimensions of ageing, the development of multiculturalism and youth identity together with changes in population mobility.
Learning Objectives:
- to provide an overview of current demographic issues;
- to develop competency in research encompassing practical, oral and written skills;
- to provide conceptual framework to examine population related issues;
- to appreciate and apply the process of scientific inquiry, investigation and reporting.
Assessment by examination (50%); continuous assessment (50%).
