Digital Design for Multimedia 5

Available to students enrolled in the BCommunication Design degree.

This is the fifth of six units in the Bachelor of Communication Design’s multimedia stream. Through a series of lectures, tutorials and practical sessions, this subject further develops video editing and programming skills (lingo) to create sophisticated multimedia projects. This subject further develops audio video editing skills (ie Final Cut Pro) and combines these through the use of programming and interface design software (Macromedia Director). Students will build on previous editing and programming skills to learn a series of advanced multimedia production techniques using industry standard software. Students will be encouraged to develop and incorporate their own design styles into the specified practical projects.

Learning Objectives:

  1. apply appropriate and creative design solutions to given problems and follow these solutions through several production phases in a manner suited to the selected production process;
  2. demonstrate an understanding of file preparation web and other multimedia applications;
  3. demonstrate an ability to construct interfaces using authoring software (Macromedia Director);
  4. utilise available computer software and information resources at an advanced level for creative, research and technical purposes;
  5. commence production of a folio of work suitable for presentation to prospective employers and clients.

Assessment by three major projects (total 80%); research seminar (10%); participation (10%). Attendance of 80% at practical workshops is required to pass this subject.
