Conserving Tropical Rainforests

Principles and concepts in rainforest conservation management including detailed studies of selected methods and problems; management of tropical rainforest environments globally including ecological, economic and social aspects; land capability, land degradation, sustainability; protected area management and conservation issues outside reserves.
Learning Objectives:
- develop comprehension and appreciation of human-rainforest relationships, especially links with forest resources and ecological processes;
- develop conceptual frameworks for analysis and evaluation;
- have an awareness and understanding of the major global issues in the conservation of biodiversity in rainforests and of ecologically sustainable management.
Assessment by examination, essay, field work or project.
