Nature of contemporary engineering projects; project life cycle and phases; project organisation and the project manager; activity networks; time management; cost management; physical resource management; human resource management; quality management; contract management; project monitoring, information and control systems; case studies.
Learning Objectives:
- learn to make conscious use of systems thinking, approaches and concepts;
- develop an attitude for dealing with complexity and uncertainty;
- learn the tools and concepts relevant to organising, planning and managing engineering projects;
- appreciate the relevance and applicability of these tools to a range of engineering management problems;
- learn to undertake problem identification, formulation and solution;
- advance effective oral and written communication skills;
- understand professional and ethical responsibilities.
Assessment by examination (50%-70%); on-course assessment (30%-50%).
