Information Technology in Classrooms

Semester 1 External for BEd (Professional Development) students and Cairns final year BEd students participating in an internship. Semesternbsp;nbsp; 2 External for RATEP students. External Semester 2 (December/January) for GradBEd students only. This subject requires access to Web-based material.

This subject will allow students to investigate the use of information and communications technologies (ICTs) for effective learning and teaching in early childhood, primary and secondary school classrooms.
Learning Objectives:
- distinguish between a variety of ICT curriculum models and be sensitive to curriculum issues relating to ICT, including social justice issues;
- implement a variety of organisational models of classroom use of ICT materials;
- make appropriate use of electronic tools (word processor, database, spreadsheet, draw/paint, telecommunications, device control) for effective learning and teaching at the student’s teaching level;
- implement programming activities to develop problem-solving skills at the student’s teaching level;
- evaluate educational software relevant to the student’s teaching level or teaching subjects;
- apply skills in microcomputer use and in the use of associated peripherals including modems, scanners and CD-ROMs.
Assessment by a 2000 word essay (40%); workshop project (40%); module discussion questions (20%).
