Technology Across the Curriculum

The subject will allow students to investigate the use of information and communications technologies (ICTs) for effective learning and teaching in early-childhood, primary and secondary school classrooms. This subject requires access to Web-based material. Students wishing to study this subject off-campus should ensure that they are able to access this material. Information on requirements is available from the School of Education.
Learning Objectives:
- distingush between a variety of ICT curriculum models and be sensitive to curriculum issues relating to ICT, inlcuding social justice issues;
- implement a variety of organisational models of classroom use of ICT materials;
- make appropriate use of electronic tools (word processor, database, speadsheet, draw/paint, telecommunications, device control) for effective learning and teaching at the student’s teaching level;
- implement programming activities to develop problem-solving skills at the student’s teaching level;
- evaluate educational software relevant to the student’s teaching level or teaching subjects;
- apply skills in microcomputer use and in the use of associated peripherals including modems, scanners and CD-ROMS.
Assessment by examination (50%); ICT project (50%).
