Vocational Education and Training Pathways

Townsville HECS Band 1

48 hours workshops/seminars. Semester 2.

Available to Bachelor of Education students.

Students will critically examine the role of vocational education and training in senior secondary schooling. Students will complete a case study of a local secondary school, mapping the impact of the introduction of vocational education and training programs on teachers’ work and students’ learning and future career options.

Learning Objectives:

  1. explain the key policy initiatives relating to vocational education in schools;
  2. explain the impact of the introduction of vocational education and training on teachers’ work in secondary schools;
  3. demonstrate understanding of the implications of curriculum choices in senior secondary schooling and future career options.

Assessment by case study including in-class presentation and defence (70%); tutorial activities (30%).
