LOTE and TESOL: Methods and Materials

Limited Attendance. Semester 1.
Available to final year students intending to become Primary LOTE teachers/to provide classroom support for the LOTE program and to students wishing to work in the TESOL area.
Staff: Dr M Allan.
This combined LOTE/TESOL subject reviews the theoretical bases for syllabus development and program implementation and explores the development of teaching methods and materials for LOTE and TESOL programs.
Learning Objectives:
- study current approaches to second language teaching, with a particular focus on task-based learning;
- apply the principles of communicative language teaching and task-based learning in the student’s own classroom practice.
Assessment by micro-teaching (40%); negotiated assignment (60%).
