Inquiries into Primary Teaching

Townsville, Cairns, External HECS Band 1

13 hours lectures, 24 hours seminars (Townsville campus); 39 hours seminars (Cairns campus); 25 hours professional experience (Townsville and Cairns campus); 75 hours (RATEP). Semester 1. External Semester 1 for RATEP students only.

The focus of this subject will be the implementation of critically reflective practice in developing effective pedagogies. Students will explore a range of professional practices, identified as beginning teacher competencies and investigate special topics of particular professional and personal significance. Implementing an inquiry approach, this subject will involve a range of adult learning modes and contexts, which may include face-to-face lectures; tutorials; electronic tutorials and reflections; community and field based experience and group and independent research activity.

Learning Objectives:

  1. further develop skills of critical reflection of personal and professional beliefs about learning and teaching;
  2. develop the skill and attitudes to engage with colleagues in a community of inquiry;
  3. refine skills for examining and developing inclusive pedagogical practices.

Assessment by individual assessment/s (30-50%); collaborative group work (30-50%); participation (up to 20%); satisfactory completion of 25 hours of professional experience.
