Inquiries into Early Childhood Learning and Teaching

Townsville, Cairns HECS Band 1

13 hours lectures, 26 hours tutorials (Townsville campus); 39 hour seminars (Cairns campus); 25 hours of professional experience (Townsville and Cairns campus). Semester 1.

The focus of this subject will be the implementation of critically reflective practice in developing effective pedagogies. Students will explore a range of professional practices, identified as beginning teacher competencies and investigate special topics of particular professional and personal significance.

Implementing an inquiry approach, this subject will involve a range of adult learning modes and contexts, which may include face-to-face lectures and tutorials; electronic tutorials and reflections; community and field-based experiences and group and independent research activity.

Learning Objectives:

  1. further develop knowledge and skills of critical reflection of personal and professional beliefs about learning and teaching;
  2. develop the skills and attitudes to engage with colleagues and students in a community of inquiry;
  3. refine skills for examining and developing inclusive pedagogical practices.

Assessment by individual assessment/s (30-50%); collaborative group work (30-50%); participation (up to 20%); satisfactory completion of 25 hours of professional experience.
