Information Communication Technologies in Education

10 World Wide Web lecture topics, 4 mass lectures, 13 hours tutorials and 10 troubleshooting workshops. Semester 1 (Townsville campus); Semester 2 (Cairns campus). This subject requires access to Web-based material. Students wishing to study the WWW lectures off-campus should ensure that they are able to access this material. Information on requirements is available from the School of Education. External delivery in Semester 1 by RATEP and BEdServ (Community Support) students.
Available to undergraduate students. Core subject for BEd.

This subject provides an introduction to the educational and societal significance of current and future developments in information communication technologies as well as the evaluation, application, and instructional design of information communication technologies in education; media text analysis and the social and psychological effects of information communication technologies and their relation to education.
Learning Objectives:
- discuss the important effects of information communication technologies on education and society;
- discuss learning theories underpinning educational software;
- describe aspects of computer assisted learning (CAL);
- discuss important social, gender and cultural issues relating to the introduction of information communication technologies;
- develop hands-on skills in the use of computer technology and the Internet.
Assessment by tutorial reaction papers (20%); workshop project (30%); examination (50%).
