Hydrology

24 hours lectures, 33 hours practicals. Semester 1. Lectures video-conferenced to Townsville campus.

An introduction to the science, technology and management of groundwater; including aquifer properties, water resource issues in Australia, water resource utilisation and protection, water quality, water pollution and remediation and dryland salinity and waterlogging.

Learning Objectives:

  1. description of the natural hydrologic processes which control the occurrence, movement and distribution of water on the Earth;
  2. appreciation of the critical role of groundwater in present day environmental pollution;
  3. development of a preliminary understanding of the processes effecting groundwater flow, quantity and availability.

Assessment by a two-hour written examination (60%); in-course tests and marked practicals (25%); two assignments (15%).
