Environmental Engineering Design

Townsville HECS Band 2

78 hours lectures and practicals, 5 days fieldwork. Semester 2.

This subject deals with the planning and design of multi purpose development or rehabilitation projects. The overriding goal is sustainable development; that is providing for human use and natural function, now and in the future. Generally three projects are included, covering topics selected from water and wastewater design; stream rehabilitation; tropical aquaculture and other infrastructure projects.

Learning Objectives:

  1. develop an understanding of sustainable development, planning and design through practical application to a range of case study projects;
  2. apply basic science and engineering fundamentals to the planning and design of projects;
  3. develop problem formulation, analysis, evaluation and decision making skills for multi-purpose projects;
  4. function effectively as an individual and as a manager or member of a project design team;
  5. develop report writing skills for inter-disciplinary communication with engineers, managers and project stakeholders.

Assessment by on-course assessment of design practical classes (100%).
