File structure, networking, streams, security, shell scripts, threads, multiprocessing, development environment, editors, documentation, system administration. Case study: installation, configuration and administration.

Learning Objectives:

  1. ability to build, configure and manage a linux/unix system.

Students should be able to demonstrate these capabilities at a level appropriate for postgraduate studies, including analysis and design.

On-course assessment in the form of assignments, laboratory work and project work and a major project.
