Information Technology Project 1

Townsville, Cairns HECS Band 2

26 hours workshops, 52 hours project work. Semester 1 and 2.

Available to Information Technology undergraduate students.

This subject is either a complete minor project or the first half of a project in Information Technology providing design work to be further developed in subject CP3047 . The problem addressed will be from industry or commerce or be a similarly organised problem developed within the university. Complete minor projects will be of reduced extent and are not intended as precursor to CP3047 .

The project will contain a survey of relevant literature, identification and specification of the problem to be solved and a high level design feasibility analysis. A complete minor project will require the implementation of a prototype solution to the problem. An account of the work done must be presented in seminars and submitted as interim project reports together with documentation of the completed project.

Learning Objectives:

  1. develop abilities to comprehend a user’s requirements and to negotiate and create a project specification. Student teams may propose the project for the supervisor’s consideration;
  2. develop the ability to apply principles and methods of scientific thinking to a critical review and assessment of relevant literature;
  3. develop abilities to perform high level feasibility analysis and high level design;
  4. develop project management abilities;
  5. develop abilities to present the results in project reports and in presentations and seminars.

Assessment involves on-course assessment including presentations, assignments and submissions of project reports. Full details of the assessment are handed out to students in the first week of the semester and will be published on the Web.
