The study of the methodology of scientific research and the design, formulation and implementation of a research project. Topics covered will include perspectives for development of knowledge; project planning and design; writing a research proposal and research report; research methodologies.
Learning Objectives:
- describe different philosophical perspectives for the development of scientific knowledge;
- describe the nature of research and the research process;
- develop researchable questions;
- choose between alternative research methods for a given research project;
- write a research proposal;
- evaluate and criticise research within and outside the student’s discipline.
Assessment by seminar questions (30%); article review (10%); oral and written presentation of research proposal (60%).
