Literature Review and Research Proposal

Townsville, Cairns HECS Band 2

This project involves independent study and research over a period of four-six weeks during which period regular contact will be maintained with the project supervisor. Semester 1 and 2.

Available to postgraduate students enrolled in the School of Tropical Biology.

Staff: Assoc. Professor D Blair, Assoc. Professor R Coventry (Townsville campus); Assoc. Professor P Gadek (Cairns campus).

Candidates will prepare a review of the literature on a topic chosen in consultation with the Course Coordinator and the supervisor of their research program. Candidates will also prepare a formal research proposal for their project, in consultation with their supervisor.

Learning Objectives:

  1. enhance reading, writing and presentation skills;
  2. learn how to prepare a review of a scientific literature;
  3. identify and plan an effective approach to important research issues;
  4. develop critical writing skills, especially those required for a research proposal;
  5. enhance knowledge and understanding of a specified area of biology.

Assessment by completion of a literature review (60%); a research proposal (40%).
