Special Topic 1

Townsville, Cairns HECS Band 2

This project involves independent study or research over a period of four-six weeks during which period regular contact will be maintained with the project supervisor. Semester 1 and 2.

Available to postgraduate students enrolled in the School of Tropical Biology and to undergraduates under special circumstances, subject to approval by Head of School.

Staff: Assoc. Professor D Blair, Assoc. Professor R Coventry (Townsville campus); Assoc. Professor P Gadek (Cairns campus).

Independent study and/or research devoted to a topic not covered in the coursework relevant to the School’s postgraduate program. The subject will be developed in consultation with, and supervised by, a member of staff of the School of Tropical Biology, with approval from the Head of School or nominee.

Learning Objectives:

  1. develop the practical skills required for carrying out a research project;
  2. acquire proficiency in literature evaluation and/or data collection and analysis;
  3. gain experience in problem-solving and scientific decision-making;
  4. develop skills in preparing and presenting written technical reports and/or oral presentations;
  5. enhance knowledge and understanding of a specified area of biology.

Assessment by on-course assignment(s), seminar, project report, or final examination, as determined by the Head of School or nominee.
