Advanced Biological Statistics

39 hours lectures, 26 hours practicals. Semester 1.

A course of lectures and practicals on statistical methods in the biological sciences. Topics include an introduction to scientific inference, exploratory data analysis on PCs, analysis of variance and linear regression models, repeated measures analyses and analysis of contingency tables and binary data.

Learning Objectives:

  1. understand the role and importance of statistical methods in the biological sciences;
  2. have a working knowledge of these methods;
  3. be able to analyse complex data using statistical software.

Assessment by assignments (30%); three-hour examination (70%).
