Introductory Human Anatomy and Histology

36 hours lectures, 36 hours practicals. Semester 2.

This subject provides a general introduction to the structure of the human body, including gross anatomy and the microscopic structure of body tissues. Special consideration will be given to aspects of structure relevant to movement and exercise.

Learning Objectives:

  1. a basic understanding of the gross and microscopic structure of the human body, with emphasis on musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, nervous and respiratory systems;
  2. a vocabulary of anatomical terminology and its proper usage;
  3. experience in the interpretation of human structure in terms of function;
  4. a basis for subsequent advanced and applied studies requiring a knowledge of human anatomy.

Assessment by mid-semester test (5%); written examination (70%); practical examination (25%).
