Archaeological Analysis and Interpretation

This subject will introduce students to the major methods of archaeological artefact analysis and interpretation and examine the proper modes of presenting data and producing an archaeological report. This will be achieved through a series of seminars, laboratory workshops and practical exercises. Students will also review the major contemporary models and debates in archaeological theory and explore the wider intellectual context of the discipline.

Learning Objectives:

  1. learn the major methods of archaeological artefact analysis and interpretation;
  2. acquire knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures;
  3. learn how to compile and produce a professional archaeological report;
  4. review the major areas of theory and critical thought in modern archaeology.

Assessment by practical book, exercises and class test (70%); major report (30%).
