TROPICAL ENVIRONMENT STUDIES AND GEOGRAPHY

POSTGRADUATE COURSEWORK PROGRAMS

Graduate Diploma and Master of Applied Science degrees are available in each of the areas listed below. The Graduate Diploma programs are designed for students who wish to broaden their expertise away from the major disciplines of their first degree and can include both undergraduate and postgraduate level subjects. The Master of Applied Science programs are designed for students who wish to consolidate and extend their undergraduate training by taking advanced coursework and some project work (under certain conditions). Both programs provide opportunities for practising managers to obtain formal qualifications and enhance career prospects. Coursework is offered in the following areas:

Many courses in TESAG have a strong focus on fieldwork and problem solving, with emphasis on practical skills such as field skills and working in a team environment. Students benefit from the close collaborative links with both government and non-government organisations and are exposed to the realities of a professional career.

Specialist majors of study may be selected in consultation with the relevant Course Coordinator from the School of Tropical Environment Studies and Geography (TESAG). Students may also include subjects offered by other schools, providing a great opportunity to customise a program to suit individual requirements. All students should consult with the Course Coordinator when arranging their subject enrolments.

POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH PROGRAMS

The Doctor of Philosophy and the Master of Science programs are primarily research degrees. Research projects may concentrate on any one, or a combination of, the disciplinary areas of the School:

Research students in northern Australia enjoy access to outstanding and diverse natural locations including rainforest, woodland, savanna, arid zone, stream, wetland, coral reef, mangrove, seagrass, soft bottom benthic and open water pelagic environments. In addition, students in TESAG gain benefits from the diversity of the academic staff who are actively involved in topical and high profile areas of research and policy, bringing national attention to JCU.
