* Any award previously incorporating ‘Bachelor of Administration (Tourism)’ has been re-named as ‘Bachelor of Tourism Management’.

POLICY ON RE-NAMED, DISESTABLISHED, SUSPENDED OR NOT OFFERED AWARDS*

1.  For re-named awards, continuing students enrolled in the previous award be permitted to continue in the previous award or transfer to the re-named award.

2.  For disestablished awards, continuing students enrolled in the previous award be permitted to continue in the previous award or transfer to another award as approved by the appropriate Executive Dean or delegate.

3.  For re-named awards and disestablished awards, commencing students not be permitted to enrol in the previous award.

4.  For suspended awards or not offered awards, continuing students be permitted to continue but commencing students not be permitted to enrol for the period of suspension or not offering.

BACHELOR DEGREES IN LAW

1.  In addition to the Faculty Award Requirements candidates for Awards of the faculty must comply with the University Requirements for Undergraduate Coursework Awards listed in this Handbook.

2.  In exceptional circumstances and notwithstanding anything contained in the University Requirements for Undergraduate Coursework Awards and the Degree or Diploma Award Requirements, the faculty may in any case in which it may deem it appropriate to do so, dispense with or amend any conditions of or prescription of these Requirements.

3.  The faculty will publish annually a list of subjects available to candidates. The list appears as Table VI in the Master Schedule of Subjects.

4.1  Candidates for Awards of the faculty may apply to obtain credit for previous tertiary study as detailed in the Faculty Policy Statement on credit transfer and associated guidelines.

4.2  Unless the faculty otherwise determines, credit gained for any subject shall be cancelled eleven years after the date of the examination upon which the credit is based if by then the candidate has not completed the course of study prescribed for the degree.

BACHELOR OF LAWS AND BACHELOR OF LAWS WITH HONOURS

1.1  Requirements for completion of the degree course

A candidate for the pass degree in Law shall follow a course of study as specified in the program shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors, to obtain a minimum of 96 units. The time for completion of the degree is four years full-time.

1.2  Candidates enrolling in Law who have completed a bachelor degree at this or another University in any other field of study (graduate candidates) shall follow a course of study as specified under the heading Graduate Entry Program shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors, to obtain a minimum of 72 units. The time for completion of the degree is three years of full-time study.

2.1  Limitation of enrolment

In selecting the subjects for which a candidate seeks to enrol in any year the candidate shall adhere as far as possible to the order in which the subjects of the course are set out in the program.

2.2  A candidate who has completed all the subjects listed as level 1, level 2 and level 3 subjects in the program may enrol in the professional subjects listed in Requirement 3.

3.  Professional subjects

With the approval of the faculty, a candidate may enrol for and take the examination in the following subjects,* passes in which may be required for admission to practice, but no credit for a pass in any such subject may be applied in satisfaction of the requirements for the pass or honours degree:

CO3201:02 Trust Accounts and Book-keeping
LA4009:01 Legal Ethics and Professional Conduct.

4.  Supplementary Examination

A candidate who has failed the final subject towards the degree or towards admission as a barrister or solicitor and who gained 40 per cent or more of the marks for that subject, may be granted a supplementary examination in that subject.

5.  Bachelor of Laws with Honours

A candidate for the degree with honours (a) shall fulfil the requirements for the pass degree at such a standard as the faculty may from time to time determine; and (b) shall be required to submit a research assignment on a topic approved by the faculty. The grade of honours will be calculated in accordance with the faculty’s approved policy*.

DEGREES AND CERTIFICATES IN BUSINESS, COMMERCE, ECONOMICS, MANAGEMENT AND TOURISM

1.  Application of the requirements

In addition to the Faculty Award Requirements candidates for Awards must comply with the University Requirements for Undergraduate Coursework Awards listed in this handbook.

2.  In exceptional circumstances the Executive Dean, with the approval of the relevant Head of School, may dispense with or amend any requirements or prescription of the University Requirements for Undergraduate Coursework Awards, Faculty Award Requirements and Degree, Diploma or Certificate Award Requirements.

3.  Enrolment in awards

A person who holds an Award listed in General Requirement 1.1 may not be a candidate for that Award in the same discipline.

4.  Credit

Candidates for Awards of the faculty may apply to obtain credit for previous tertiary study as detailed in the Faculty Policy Statement on credit transfer and associated guidelines.

5.  The faculty will publish annually a list of subjects available to candidates. The list appears as Table II in the Master Schedule of Subjects.

6.  In exceptional circumstances the Executive Dean with the approval of the relevant head of the school may permit a candidate to graduate with fewer than the stipulated units of study for an Award offered in the faculty.

BACHELOR OF ADMINISTRATION (TOURISM)

Renamed the Bachelor of Tourism Management at the end of 2002. Students currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Administration (Tourism) will be given the option of transferring to the Bachelor of Tourism Management or remaining in their current degree.

BACHELOR OF ADMINISTRATION (TOURISM) WITH HONOURS

Renamed the Bachelor of Tourism Management with Honours at the end of 2002. Students currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Administration (Tourism) with Honours will be given the option of transferring to the Bachelor of Tourism Management with Honours or remaining in their current degree.

BACHELOR OF ADMINISTRATION (TOURISM) — BACHELOR OF HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Renamed the Bachelor of Tourism Management-Bachelor of Human Resource Management at the end of 2002. Students currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Administration (Tourism)-Bachelor of Human Resource Management will be given the option of transferring to the Bachelor of Tourism Management-Bachelor of Human Resource Management or remaining in their current degree.

BACHELOR OF ADMINISTRATION (TOURISM) WITH HONOURS — BACHELOR OF HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Renamed the Bachelor of Tourism Management with Honours-Bachelor of Human Resource Management at the end of 2002. Students currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Administration (Tourism) with Honours-Bachelor of Human Resource Management will be given the option of transferring to the Bachelor of Tourism Management with Honours-Bachelor of Human Resource Management or remaining in their current degree.

BACHELOR OF ADMINISTRATION (TOURISM) — BACHELOR OF JOURNALISM

This course has been disestablished. No new enrolments will be accepted in 2003. Students currently enrolled will be given the option of transferring to another course or remaining in their current course. Award requirements for the disestablished course are shown in the 2002 Student Handbook.

BACHELOR OF ADMINISTRATION (TOURISM) — BACHELOR OF MANAGEMENT

This course has been disestablished. No new enrolments will be accepted in 2003. Students currently enrolled will be given the option of transferring to another course or remaining in their current course. Award requirements for the disestablished course are shown in the 2002 Student Handbook.

BACHELOR OF ADMINISTRATION (TOURISM) WITH HONOURS — BACHELOR OF MANAGEMENT

BACHELOR OF BUSINESS — BACHELOR OF ECONOMICS

1.1  A candidate for the pass degree shall pursue studies to obtain normally a minimum of 96 units. The requirements of the degree are normally completed in four years of full-time study.

1.2  The 96 units shall be obtained in accordance with the requirements set out in the Schedule below.

2.  Withdrawal from the joint degree

A candidate may at any stage consult with the Academic Adviser for Economics on the requirements necessary to change to a Bachelor of Business or to a Bachelor of Economics.

The joint degree does not have honours. The honours degrees attach to the single degrees of Bachelor of Business with Honours and Bachelor of Economics with Honours and are available to single or joint degree students.

BACHELOR OF BUSINESS — BACHELOR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

1.1  A candidate for the pass degree shall pursue studies to obtain normally a minimum of 96 units. The requirements of the degree are normally completed in four years of full-time study.

1.2  The 96 units shall be obtained in accordance with the minimal requirements of the Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Information Technology degrees.

1.3  The distribution of the units shall meet the minimal requirements set out in the Schedule.

1.1  A candidate for the pass degree shall pursue studies to obtain normally a minimum of 96 units. The requirements of the degree are normally completed in four years of full-time study or equivalent part-time study.

1.2  The 96 units shall be obtained in accordance with the requirements set out in the Schedule below.

2.  Special Notes

A candidate who cannot take one of the compulsory subjects, or for whom a special case can be made, may be permitted to take an extra elective in place of one compulsory subject.

BACHELOR OF BUSINESS — BACHELOR OF PSYCHOLOGY WITH HONOURS IN BOTH OR EITHER DISCIPLINES

1.1  Requirements for the degree

Honours in the joint degree may be completed as:

BBus(Hons)-BPsych(Hons); BBus(Hons)-BPsych; BBus-BPsych(Hons) depending on the requirements of individual candidates.

1.2  A candidate for the Honours degree shall normally pursue studies as follows:

1.3  Candidates undertaking honours shall complete the requirements of the joint pass degree followed by the normal honours requirements in either or both components of the joint degree depending on the degree in which the candidate enrols.

BACHELOR OF BUSINESS — BACHELOR OF TOURISM MANAGEMENT

1.1  A candidate for the pass degree shall pursue studies to obtain normally a minimum of 96 units. The requirements of the degree are normally completed in four years of full-time study.

1.2  The 96 units shall be obtained in accordance with the requirements set out in the specified program of study shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.

BACHELOR OF BUSINESS WITH HONOURS — BACHELOR OF TOURISM MANAGEMENT

1.1  Award requirements

A candidate for the joint degree, Bachelor of Business with Honours – Bachelor of Tourism Management shall:

  1. complete the requirements of the joint pass degree, or an equivalent degree from this or another University;
  2. include in the joint degree course the appropriate pass degree subjects, as set out in the program of study or equivalent subjects from this or another University;
  3. include in the degree course an additional 24 units of specified honours subjects.

2.1  Enrolment

An application by a student to enrol for an honours degree must be approved by the Head of School. Normally, a student will not be permitted to enrol for an honours degree unless a minimum average grade of credit has been obtained in the pass degree subjects relevant to the field in which honours are being undertaken.

2.2  In the case of this honours program a graduate who has been awarded an appropriate pass degree with the faculty may apply to enrol for an honours degree provided the pass degree was awarded not more than two academic years prior to the year in which enrolment in an honours degree is sought. Such a candidate shall comply with the requirements of the pass degree and shall complete such additional work (including pass degree subjects) as the Head of the appropriate program may prescribe.

3.  Thesis

The subject of any thesis shall be approved by the Head of School and the thesis shall normally be presented before 30 November in the candidate’s final year of study, unless otherwise determined by the Head of School.

BACHELOR OF COMMERCE

1.  Requirements for completion of the degree course

A candidate for the pass degree in Commerce shall follow the specified program of study shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors, to obtain a minimum of 72 units. The normal time for completion of the degree is three years of full-time study.

BACHELOR OF COMMERCE — BACHELOR OF ECONOMICS

1.1  Award requirements

A candidate for the pass degree shall pursue studies to obtain normally a minimum of 96 units. The requirements of the degree are normally completed in four years of full-time study.

1.2  The 96 units shall be obtained in accordance with the requirements set out in the Schedule below.

2.1  Withdrawal from the joint degree

A candidate may, at any stage, consult with the Academic Adviser regarding changing to a Bachelor of Commerce or to a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics major).

The joint degree does not have honours. The honours degrees attach to the single degrees of Bachelor of Commerce with Honours and Bachelor of Economics with Honours and are available to single or joint degree students.

BACHELOR OF COMMERCE — BACHELOR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

1.1  Administration of the joint degree

The joint degree shall be administered by the Executive Deans of the Faculty of Law, Business and the Creative Arts and the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

2.1  Requirements for the degree

A candidate for the pass degree shall pursue studies to obtain normally a minimum of 98 units. The requirements of the degree are generally completed in four years of full-time study.

2.2  The 98 units shall be obtained in accordance with the requirements set out in the Schedule below.

1.1  Award requirements

A candidate for the pass degree shall pursue studies to obtain normally a minimum of 120 units. The requirements for the degree are normally completed in five years of full-time study.

1.2  The 120 units, from 2.1 above, shall be obtained in accordance with the requirements set out in the Schedule shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.

2.1  Application for enrolment

An applicant for the joint degree may apply for candidature at the first, second or third year.

2.2  A candidate who has previously graduated with either component of the joint degree will not be approved to enrol in the joint degree.

3.1  Withdrawal from the joint degree course

A candidate who has completed the requirements of the first year of the joint degree may convert to candidature for the degree of Bachelor of Laws without loss of credit. (Note: conversion after completion of any later year of the joint degree will normally entail loss of credit for non-Law subjects completed beyond level 1.)

3.2  A candidate who has met the requirements of years one to three of the course of study prescribed in the Schedule, shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors, and who does not complete the requirements of the fourth and fifth years of the course, shall consult the Executive Dean on the requirements for completion of the degree of Bachelor of Commerce.

BACHELOR OF COMMERCE-BACHELOR OF LAWS WITH HONOURS IN BOTH OR EITHER DISCIPLINES

BACHELOR OF ECONOMICS WITH HONOURS

1.  Award requirements

A candidate for the Bachelor of Economics with honours shall follow the specified program of study (shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors) to obtain 24 units. The normal time for completion is one year of full-time study.

2.  Enrolment

Applicants must have completed the requirements for a pass degree with a similar amount of economics to the pass degree at James Cook University, at this university or at another Australian or overseas university. Applicants will be required to have a minimum average grade of credit in the pass degree subjects relevant to their honours degree.

3.  In special cases students may be permitted to enrol part-time in economics honours.

  3. include in the degree course honours subjects specified in the specific Honours programs.

An application by a student to enrol for an Honours degree must be approved by the Head of School. Normally, a student will not be permitted to enrol for an Honours degree unless a minimum average grade of credit has been obtained in the pass degree subjects relevant to the field in which Honours is to be taken.

2.2  In the case of Honours programs in Commerce or Business a graduate who has been awarded an appropriate pass degree within the faculty may apply to enrol for an Honours degree provided the pass degree was awarded not more than two academic years prior to the year in which enrolment in an Honours degree is sought. 2.  Constitution of the course

The subjects shall be in accordance with the program in Business shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.

3.  Exit status

Persons who have been awarded the Certificate of Business who subsequently enrol with credit in a higher award of the University will be required to surrender the Certificate before the higher award is conferred.

DEGREES AND CERTIFICATES IN THE CREATIVE ARTS

1.  Entitlement to attend

A student of the University shall be entitled to attend any lecture with the permission of the lecturer.

2.1  Application of requirements

In addition to the Faculty Award Requirements candidates must comply with the University Requirements for Undergraduate Coursework Awards listed in this Student Handbook and specific degree or certificate Award Requirements.

2.2  In exceptional circumstances the Executive Dean, where appropriate in consultation with the relevant Head of School, may dispense with or amend any requirements of or prescription by the University Requirements for Undergraduate Coursework Awards, Faculty Award Requirements and specific degree, diploma or certificate Award Requirements. Any major dispensation of the requirements should be reported to the faculty.

2.3  The Executive Dean, where appropriate in consultation with the appropriate Head of School, may permit a candidate to graduate with fewer than the stipulated units of study for an Award offered in the faculty.

3.  Enrolment in awards

A person who holds an award listed in General Requirements 1.1 and 1.2 may not be a candidate for that award in the same discipline.

4.  Credit

Candidates for awards of the faculty may apply to obtain credit for previous tertiary study as detailed in the Faculty Policy Statement on credit transfer and associated guidelines.

5.  Available subjects

The faculty will publish annually a list of subjects available to candidates. The list appears as Table I in the Master Schedule of Subjects.

6.  Coherence of degree structure

The faculty must be satisfied that the completed Award constitutes a coherent whole.

7.1  The grade of Pass Conceded

The grade of Pass Conceded may be recommended by the College of Music, Visual Arts and Theatre directly on the basis of the particular examination. This grade may also be awarded by the faculty following consideration of the candidate’s overall result for the year.

7.2  A candidate who is granted the grade of Pass Conceded in a subject shall, for the purposes of Requirement 6.1, be deemed to have passed the subject and shall be credited with the appropriate units, but may not enrol for a more advanced subject in any discipline requiring the first as a prerequisite except with the approval of the appropriate Head of School.

7.3  The number of units that may be credited at Pass Conceded level shall not exceed a total as determined from time to time by the faculty.

7.4  A candidate awarded the grade of Pass Conceded may apply to the Head of the School concerned for permission to attempt to convert that grade to a Pass grade. Such re-examination will not be counted towards aggregate units work load for an academic year.

7.5  All applications under Requirement 6.4 must be approved by the Executive Dean.

8.1  Non-degree students

A person who is not proceeding to a degree may enrol for any subject with the approval of the Head of School and on completing the subject shall be entitled to receive an official statement to that effect on application to the Registrar.

8.2  A person who has not qualified for Ordinary or Alternative Entry Admission may enrol for any subject with the approval of the Head of School in the terms of Requirement 3.1, but may enrol for subjects in more than one School only with the approval of the faculty. Subjects completed by such a student may not be credited towards a degree except by permission of the faculty.

9.  Saving clause

Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in these Requirements, the faculty may in any case in which it may deem it appropriate to do so, dispense with or suspend any condition of or prescription by these Requirements. Any such action by the faculty shall be recorded for the purposes of an annual review.

BACHELOR OF COMMUNICATION DESIGN

1.  A person who wishes to enrol for the degree of Bachelor of Communication Design shall be required to demonstrate at interview suitability for the course and provide a portfolio of relevant work as specified by the College of Music, Visual Arts and Theatre.

2.  To qualify for the award of the Bachelor of Communication Design degree (with majors in either Digital Design or Visual Communication) students must successfully complete the prescribed subjects to a minimum value of 72 units in accordance with these requirements. BACHELOR OF COMMUNICATION DESIGN WITH HONOURS

A person who has qualified for the award of the degree of Bachelor of Communication Design (the pass degree) may enrol for the Honours degree in either Research or Practice if that person has:

2.2  All candidates, unless exempted by the Head of the College of Music, Visual Arts and Theatre, will take part, as prescribed, in choral and/or ensemble rehearsals and performances.

BACHELOR OF MUSIC WITH HONOURS

1.  Requirements for completion of degree course

To qualify for the degree a candidate must have completed subjects of a minimum total value of 96 units in accordance with these Requirements. The normal time for completion of the degree is four years of full-time study.

2.  Constitution of the degree

The subjects selected shall be in accordance with the program in Bachelor of Music with Honours shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.

3.1  Entry to Honours degree course

A candidate enrolled for the degree of Bachelor of Music may apply to enrol for the degree of Bachelor of Music with Honours in either:

4.  Resubmission for Final Honours

5.  Award of the degree

In the award of Honours, consideration shall be given to the candidate’s record throughout the course.

BACHELOR OF MUSIC — BACHELOR OF EDUCATION

This course provides a qualification that leads to registration as a teacher of classroom music and instrumental music.

1.  Administration of the degree

The joint pass degree of Bachelor of Music-Bachelor of Education shall be administered by the Faculty of Law, Business and the Creative Arts and the Faculty of Arts, Education and Social Sciences. The respective faculties will be responsible for the administration relating to their degree and subjects.

2.1  Admission to the degree

Entry to the joint degree is restricted to students preparing for secondary teaching who pass the audition, test and interview as specified by the College of Music, Visual Arts and Theatre from time to time; and who gain entry to the course through QTAC, or transfer with a Credit level average in their first year of university studies in a different degree program.

2.2  Re-enrolment in level 2 of the joint degree shall require a Credit level average in the first year of the joint degree.

3.1  Requirements for the degree

A candidate for the degree must fulfil the requirements of the relevant program shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors, obtaining a minimum of 110 units.

3.2  Candidates other than those granted advanced status by way of requirement 4 shall normally pursue full-time studies for a minimum period of four and a half years.

3.3  The maximum period of candidature shall be twice the period specified in 3.2 above.

4.  Advanced status and credit for other studies

A candidate may be granted advanced status upon conditions determined by the relevant faculty. The maximum credit allowed shall be in accordance with the published policy of the relevant faculty.

5.1  Professional experience in degree

All candidates without previous approved teacher education shall be required to undertake professional experience as prescribed by the Faculty of Arts, Education and Social Sciences.

5.2  Candidates may be required to undertake professional experience in a school away from their normal place of residence, at their own expense.

6.  Withdrawal from the joint degree course

A candidate who has partially completed the requirements of the course of study prescribed for the completion of the joint degree and who then withdraws from the joint degree shall consult the relevant Executive Dean on the requirements for completion of the degree of Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Education.

BACHELOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY WITH HONOURS

Note: A person who wishes to enrol for the degree of Bachelor of Visual Arts shall be required to demonstrate at interview suitability for the course and provide a portfolio of relevant work.

The subjects selected shall be in accordance with the course details in Visual Arts shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.

BACHELOR OF VISUAL ARTS WITH HONOURS

1.  To qualify for the degree a candidate must have completed subjects of a minimum total value of 96 units in accordance with these Requirements. The normal time for completion of the degree is four years of full-time study.

2.  Constitution of the degree

The subjects selected shall be in accordance with the program in Visual Arts with Honours (Research), or Visual Arts with Honours (Professional Practice) shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.

3.1  Entry to honours degree course

A candidate enrolled for the degree of Bachelor of Visual Arts may be invited by the Head of the College of Music, Visual Arts and Theatre to enrol for the degree of Bachelor of Visual Arts with Honours (Research) if that candidate has obtained a minimum of 72 units by successful completion of the level 1, level 2 and level 3 subjects prescribed in the program, provided that the grade of at least distinction has been obtained in the following level 3 subjects of Visual Arts Practice and Art History and Theory; and that the grade of at least credit has been obtained in the level 3 subject of Drawing.

3.2  A candidate enrolled for the degree of Bachelor of Visual Arts may be invited by the Head of the College to enrol for the degree of Bachelor of Visual Arts with Honours (Professional Practice) if that candidate has obtained a minimum of 72 units by successful completion of the level 1, level 2 and level 3 subjects prescribed in the program, provided that the grade of at least distinction has been obtained in the following level 3 subject of Visual Arts Practice and that the grade of at least credit has been obtained in the level 3 subjects of Drawing and Art History and Theory.

3.3  A person who holds the degree of Bachelor of Visual Arts of this or another University, or who holds an equivalent qualification, may be permitted to enrol in the Honours course where the Head of the College is satisfied that the qualification justifies candidature in one of the honours specialisations currently offered by Visual Arts. Requirements include a provision that candidates entering after graduation shall complete such specifications of Requirement 2 of the Bachelor of Visual Arts as the Head of College may specify.

4.  Resubmission for final honours

A candidate shall not be permitted to present more than once for the final examination in the same honours discipline, but may be permitted by the examiners to resubmit the Honours thesis or comparable prescribed work.

5.  Award of the degree

In the award of Honours, consideration shall be given to the candidate’s record throughout the course.

CERTIFICATE OF DESKTOP PUBLISHING

1.  To qualify for the award a candidate must normally have completed subjects of a minimum total value of six units in accordance with these Requirements. The normal time for completion of the Certificate is two semesters of part-time study.

2.  The subjects selected shall be in accordance with the program in Desktop Publishing shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.

3.  Persons who have been awarded the Certificate of Desktop Publishing who subsequently enrol with credit in a higher award of the University will be required to surrender the Certificate before the higher award is conferred.

CERTIFICATE OF MUSIC PRACTICE

1.  Requirements for the completion of the course

To qualify for the award a candidate must normally have completed subjects of a minimum total value of six units in accordance with these Requirements. The normal time for completion of the Certificate is two semesters of part-time study.

2.  Constitution of the course

The subjects selected shall be in accordance with the program in Music Practice shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.

3.  Exit status

Persons who have been awarded the Certificate of Music Practice who subsequently enrol with credit in a higher award of the University will be required to surrender the Certificate before the higher award is conferred.

CERTIFICATE OF PHOTOGRAPHY

1.  Requirements for completion of the course

A person who wishes to enrol for the Certificate of Photography shall be required to meet the admission requirements as specified by the College of Music, Visual Arts and Theatre from time to time.

2.  To qualify for the award a candidate must normally have completed subjects of a minimum total value of six units in accordance with these requirements. The normal time for completion of the certificate is two semesters part-time. The subjects selected shall be in accordance with the program in Photography shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.

3.  Persons who have been awarded the Certificate of Photography who subsequently enrol with credit in a higher award of the university will be required to surrender the Certificate before the higher award is conferred.

CERTIFICATE OF PIANO ACCOMPANIMENT

1.  Requirements for completion of the course

A person who wishes to enrol for the Certificate of Piano Accompaniment must have successfully completed Performing Music 1 MU1401 or equivalent; or provide through audition or similar process, evidence of a commensurate level of keyboard skills..

2.  To qualify for the award, a candidate must normally have completed subjects of a minimum total value of eight units in accordance with these Requirements. The normal time for completion of the Certificate is two years of part-time study. The subjects selected shall be in accordance with the program in Piano Accompaniment shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.

3.  Persons who have been awarded the Certificate of Piano Accompaniment who subsequently enrol with credit in a higher award of the University will be required to surrender the Certificate before the higher award is conferred.

CERTIFICATE OF THEATRE SKILLS

1.  Requirements for the completion of the course

To qualify for the award a candidate must normally have completed subjects of a minimum total value of six units in accordance with these Requirements. The normal time for completion of the Certificate is two semesters of part-time study.

The subjects selected shall be in accordance with the program in Theatre Skills shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.

3.  Exit status

Persons who have been awarded the Certificate of Theatre Skills who subsequently enrol with credit in a higher award of the University will be required to surrender the Certificate before the higher award is conferred.

CERTIFICATE OF VISUAL ARTS FUNDAMENTALS

1.  Requirements for the completion of the course

To qualify for the award a candidate must have completed subjects of a minimum total value of six units in accordance with these Requirements. The normal time for completion of the Certificate is two semesters of part-time study.

2.  Constitution of the course

The subjects shall be in accordance with the program in Visual Arts Fundamentals shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.

3.  Exit status

Persons who have been awarded the Certificate of Visual Arts Fundamentals and subsequently enrol with credit in a higher award of the University will be required to surrender the Certificate before the higher award is conferred.

CERTIFICATE OF VISUAL ARTS PRACTICE

1.  Admission requirements

A person who wishes to enrol for the Certificate of Visual Arts Practice shall be required to provide a portfolio of work as specified by the College of Music, Visual Arts and Theatre from time to time and to demonstrate suitability for the course at an interview.

2.  Constitution of the course

To qualify for the award a candidate must normally have completed subjects of a minimum total value of six units in accordance with these Requirements. The normal time for completion of the Certificate is two semesters of part-time study. The subjects selected shall be in accordance with the program in Visual Arts Practice shown under Undergraduate Courses and Majors.
