Field Placement

Townsville, Cairns

HECS Band 1

12 hours pre-placement planning workshops or the equivalent in mixed mode delivery, 10 weeks full-time field work, 12 hours integration workshops, 1.5 hours professional supervision per student per week and 6 hours field liaison per student, during and as part of field placement. Full year.

Staff: Dr J Thomson (Townsville campus).

Field education experience in Townsville or Cairns or regionally based agency.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to undertake field education experience that integrates knowledge processes and skills for community work in the practice arena;
  2. to enable students to link independent study in a particular field with a range of practice skills;
  3. to encourage the development of a personal practice style by linking learning methods and practice;
  4. to enable students to select and experience project based practice in agencies in the region.

Assessment by learning plan, mid-placement assessment, end of placement assessment, statement of learning (1,500 words), practice journal, attendance at all integration workshops, pre-placement planning workshops and completion of pre-placement tasks. All pieces of assessment are regarded as of equal importance. All pieces of assessment must be completed at a satisfactory standard in order to gain an overall satisfactory grading.
