*NOTE* Construction and Presentation Techniques

3 hours lectures, 48 hours practicals. Semester 1.

Available to BVA students only.

Traditional and contemporary approaches to Fine Art presentation and associated construction techniques will be explored. Students will undertake workshops in: safety awareness; the construction of painting stretchers, easels, perspex boxes for the display of 3D work and folders and boxes for the storage and/or display of works on paper; the framing of canvases and works under perspex (including matt cutting), as well as alternative presentation techniques for works on paper.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to understand the fundamentals of creating traditional and contemporary methods of display;
  2. to gain an appreciation of safe work practices;
  3. to gain the practical skills required to access the workshop tools and equipment necessary for construction and presentation techniques.

This is an ungraded subject. Each of the set projects must be completed to a satisfactory standard to gain a Satisfactory (“S”) grade.
