Practical Theatre Studies 2A

15 hours workshops. Semester 1. Students are expected to undertake 15 hours independent group projects.

Practical studies of plays and the subsequent realisation of the performance text are the content areas. Throughout the subject, theory is combined with practice in a physical exploration of the performance properties of texts. Analysis of selected texts will be developed in workshop and seminar sessions.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to demonstrate an understanding of selected playwrights within an historical/contemporary context;
  2. to apply skills in the analysis and interpretation of selected texts as blueprints for performance;
  3. to translate intellectual discovery into stage action by exploring physical ways of dealing with text.

Assessment by weekly tasks (20%); two seminar projects of 20% (40%); essay (2,000 words) (40%).
