Contact hours will vary according to the modules chosen up to a maximum of 126 hours workshops. Semester 1.

Available to level 1 BT students only.

Students enrolling in this subject will undertake either Acting or Production modules.

Acting

Vocal modules — the physiology of voice, relaxation, breath in relation to the body.

Movement modules — body alignment, physical control and precision in action.

Production

Technical production students learn the importance of sound for theatre. Areas of study include sourcing of sound; use of music and effects; the technology of sound systems; recording, editing and assembling of basic sound systems.

Learning Objectives:

Acting

  1. to introduce students to acting skills in the discipline and their application in practice.

Production

  1. to enable students to identify, employ and obtain mastery of fundamental key competencies necessary for application to professional theatre.

Assessment by:

Acting

Movement: creative diary (1500 words) (20%); performance (30%); Voice: voice journal (10%); voice analysis essay (15%); performance (25%).

Production

Develop soundscape as related to a theatrical production together with a written report detailing the methodology (50%); practical skills tests to ascertain competencies on sound system components (50%).
