Directed Readings in Sociology

Available to Sociology honours students (see SY4001 above for details on eligibility).

Staff: a Sociology staff member under the coordination of Dr R Wilkinson.

The subject gives students the opportunity to explore the literature in a theoretical or substantive area of Sociology under the guidance of a Sociology staff member. A choice of reading programs is normally available.

Learning Objectives:

  1. enhance skills relevant to accessing, reviewing and evaluating research literatures;
  2. understand the major themes, findings and debates in an area of Sociology;
  3. inform the development of students’ own research interests.

Assessment by written-up group presentation or annotated bibliography (30%); written assignment of 4,000 words (70%).
