Exercise Prescription

39 hours lectures, 13 hours tutorials, 36 hours practicals. Semester 1.

Available to level 3 sport and exercise science students, physical education students and other students.

Staff: Assoc. Professor W Spinks.

Adaptations to training. Training theories and principles. Methods used to develop strength, speed, power an endurance. Periodisation. Tapering and peaking. Implementation of strategies to prevent sports injury and overtraining. The design and implementation of training schedules for specific populations.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to demonstrate an understanding of the theories and principles that underline program design;
  2. to be able to evaluate, assess and advise on fitness programs in all areas of the community.

Assessment by a three-hour end of semester examination (50%); assignments (30%); practical (20%).
