Doctoral Seminars in Clinical Psychology

39 hours workshops. Block mode. Full year.

Available to students admitted to the Doctor of Psychology program.

Staff: Assoc. Professor E Helmes and other staff.

This subject constitutes an independent study contract. It also incorporates lectures and workshops by experts in specialist clinical fields. The contract will involve an in-depth critical examination, review and evaluation of a specialised clinical topic or research area that is of particular interest to the student. Topics for the project must be negotiated with the subject coordinator in advance together with a schedule of periodic reviews of progress. The independent study will culminate in a presentation by the student of at least one hour duration. A written submission summarising the work of at least 3000 words must also be submitted at the end of semester 2.

Learning Objectives:

  1. acquire knowledge and skills that will enable students to conduct high level interventions with severely disordered clients and conduct complex universal, selected or indicated interventions of a preventative nature.

Assessment by seminar (30%); written report (70%).
