Available to Bachelor of Photography students. Students undertaking this subject must either have passed or have a concurrent enrolment in PT1710.

This subject forms the basis for the introduction of the theoretical principles of photography. Topics to be covered include use and operation of camera equipment; an introduction to photographic optics; the structure and characteristics of photographic films; the control of exposure through the operation of aperture and shutter; understanding and control of depth of field and movement; types and characteristics of photographic lenses; care of camera equipment and photographic materials with particular reference to tropical conditions.
Learning Objectives:
- gain a fundamental understanding of photographic principles and concepts and the nature and operation of 35mm equipment;
- acquire a basic comprehension of the nature, control and measurement of light;
- develop an understanding of the use of sensitised photographic materials.
Assessment by three written tests (60%); minor research project (10%); major research project (20%); tutorial attendance and participation (10%).
