Strategic Management

Strategic Management is the capstone subject in the business program integrating the core disciplines across the curriculum. Strategic management is not just an ideal; strategic thinking and management are essential for the effectiveness of all organisations. It is an overall organisational perspective in the global Australian context involving concepts and theoretical components, analytical frameworks and tools and integrative processes including leadership that underpins effective strategic management in the new millennium. The subject also illustrates strategic planning as a ‘real world’ activity. It can involve formative and summative case studies, simulations, as well as field work based on organisations chosen by the students themselves. The objective is to expose students to strategic management issues and the opportunity to study them in practice. This approach enhances the level of understanding of knowledge, analytical skills and competencies. It recommends facilitates discovery, creation and recommends more effective management approaches.

Learning Objectives:

  1. why strategic management is necessary;
  2. the impact of internal and external stakeholders;
  3. the strategy formulation, implementation and control process;
  4. the effect on strategy regarding the dimensions of business, i.e. SMEs and MNEs;
  5. students will be able to produce a corporate/business plan.
