Strategic Electronic Marketing

26 hours lectures, 12 hours tutorials. Semester 2.

The subject takes on a business management focus, rather than a pure information systems approach. No prior knowledge in information systems is required. In particular, dimensions to be studied include a general understanding of e-business, the e-business technology, -communication, -distribution systems and -value strategies. The importance of knowledge management is studied in terms of the individual and diffusion of innovations and information collection and use. These concepts are then integrated into the e-business strategy, so as to set up effective e-business management. Political, legal and ethical environments are touched on as well.

Learning Objectives:

  1. gain an overall understanding and appreciation of changing business models in today’s internet world;
  2. become familiar with the underlying technology and jargon;
  3. embark on innovative ways of marketing and creating customer value;
  4. become familiar with the role of customer database management, data warehousing and data mining for purposes of developing profitable long term customer relationships;
  5. prepare and deliver professional business presentations, using multi-media, web-enabled communication tools.
