Advanced Japanese 1

26 hours lectures (video-conferenced to Cairns), 26 hours tutorials (over three intensive workshops in Cairns). Semester 1.

This subject is designed for those who have either completed Intermediate Japanese at JCU or have reached a similar level of proficiency through studying Japanese elsewhere. It deals with authentic Japanese material both in a printed and electronic form, such as TV dramas, documentaries, magazine and newspaper articles etc.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to equip students with the skills necessary to comprehend to a fair degree of detail the content of films, TV dramas, simple news stories and magazine articles; summarise such, both in speech and in writing; satisfy routine requirements of everyday social situations.

Assessment by assignments, in-class tests, oral/aural and written examinations: listening (25%); speaking (25%); reading (25%); writing (25%).
