This subject covers the principles of writing for print media such as newspapers, magazines and newsletters and includes instruction in print production using desktop publishing software.

Learning Objectives:

  1. provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with the basic skills required to put together a community newsletter;
  2. introduce students to the technology required to produce a printed publication;
  3. enable students to become familiar with and use the standard of grammar required in mainstream journalism;
  4. enable students to edit, design, layout and print their stories;
  5. enable students to study the possibilities of culturally appropriate print media in remote communities;
  6. introduce students to a wide range of print media dealing with international, national, State and local issues as they affect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Assessment by on-campus assignments and practicals (70%); off-campus assignment (20%); attendance and participation (10%).
