This subject is taught wholly by external study mode.

It examines selected developments in world history since 1500. Topics include the rise of Western Christendom, the European power struggles of the 17th century, the industrial revolution and the political changes of the 20th century.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to introduce students to the work of international historians;
  2. to provide students with an historical interpretation of major international structures, forces and issues from 1500;
  3. to develop skills in historical writing and research.

Assessment by module assignments (40%), major essay (30%); examination (30%).
