Climate Systems and Climate Change

The subject introduces basic elements of Earth’s climate system. It emphasises the historical dimensions of climatic change and variability at geological to contemporary time scales. Questions of anthropogenic climate change are analysed within this framework.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to introduce Earth’s climatic system;
  2. to explore aspects of climatic variability and change;
  3. to place contemporary concerns with anthropogenic climate change in a historical context.

Assessment by practical work; essay; field report; examination. Weightings for each item of assessment will be decided in consultation with students.
