Australian Literature

A survey of Australian poetry, fiction and drama and of the changing contexts which have influenced this writing.

Learning Objectives:

  1. a detailed knowledge of each of the set texts;
  2. a familiarity with the critical reception of the set texts and the secondary literature surrounding them;
  3. an understanding of the changes in the generic boundaries of Australian literature;
  4. an understanding of the influence of social, political and literary developments in the period;
  5. a sense of the progressive development of an identifiably Australian tradition of writing.

Assessment by one 3000 word essay (40%); seminar participation (20%); three-hour examination (40%).
