Teaching and Learning Literacy

External nationally and internationally. Semester 1 and 2.

Available to Postgraduate Certificate of Education, Bachelor of Education (Professional Development) and Master of Education students.

The subject examines current strategies and techniques for teaching and learning literacy. These include pedagogy, planning, critical literacy, classroom resources, school based assessment, and equity initiatives which can be implemented at the school level. Professional participants in this subject who have experience in Early Childhood, Primary, Secondary or Adult Education will be able to engage in issues relevant to their sector.

Learning Objectives:

  1. critically evaluate the effects of specific techniques and strategies for teaching and learning literacy in a nominated professional field;
  2. develop theoretically informed teaching strategies and techniques relevant to a nominated professional field.

Assessment by a 2,000 word (or equivalent) critical review (40%); a 3,000 word (or equivalent) program or project (60%).
