Issues in Literacy Education

Available to Postgraduate Certificate, BEd (Professional Development) and Master of Education students.

The subject examines a range of literacy issues in social, cultural and historical contexts. These include definitions of literacy, syllabus and policy developments, assessment and accountability. Professional participants in this subject who have experience in Early Childhood, Primary, Secondary or Adult Education will be able to engage in issues relevant to their sector.

Learning Objectives:

  1. identify and describe a range of social contexts that inform current literacy education;
  2. analyse critically the impact of selected social contexts on a nominated professional field.

Assessment by 2,000 word (or equivalent) media analysis (40%); 3,000 word (or equivalent) critical review (60%).
