Available to Human Movement students in primary and secondary programs.

This subject covers general principles of coaching and human performance as established by the Australian Coaching Council. It focuses on the role and responsibility of the coach in modern society with a specific emphasis on coaching in schools. Areas for study are based on units from the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme. These units include the development of skills, techniques, and strategies specific to sport coaching and examine the practical aspects of coaching.
Learning Objectives:
- explain theories of coaching
- understand the role of the coach
- describe elements of the skills, techniques and strategies necessary for successful coaching;
- develop reflective skills associated with successful coaching particularly as they apply to school age children;
- explore and critically analyse coach education resources;
- develop effective communication skills necessary for successful coaching particularly as they apply to school age children.
Assessment by sport coaching portfolio (70%); seminar presentation (30%).
