Technology Across the Curriculum

20 hours lectures, 10 hours tutorials. Semester 2.

The subject will allow students to investigate the use of information and communications technologies (ICTs) for effective learning and teaching in early-childhood, primary and secondary school classrooms. This subject requires access to Web-based material. Students wishing to study this subject off-campus should ensure that they are able to access this material. Information on requirements is available from the School of Education.

Learning Objectives:

  1. distingush between a variety of ICT curriculum models and be sensitive to curriculum issues relating to ICT, inlcuding social justice issues;
  2. implement a variety of organisational models of classroom use of ICT materials;
  3. make appropriate use of electronic tools (word processor, database, speadsheet, draw/paint, telecommunications, device control) for effective learning and teaching at the student’s teaching level;
  4. implement programming activities to develop problem-solving skills at the student’s teaching level;
  5. evaluate educational software relevant to the student’s teaching level or teaching subjects;
  6. apply skills in microcomputer use and in the use of associated peripherals including modems, scanners and CD-ROMS.

Assessment by 2,500 word essay (40%); workshop project (60%).
